Automobiles in German City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a individual who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.

Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
